When Your Sink or Tub Overflows?
Flooded bathrooms are more common than many realize, often stemming from issues like clogs or burst pipes. For example, if you fill your sink with water and it overflows due to an ineffective sink overflow hole, the likely culprit is a blocked sink drain, causing water to spill onto the floor.
Initially, the water entering your sink or tub typically contains minimal to no bacteria and is safe for consumption. However, when water remains stagnant in your sink or tub, it creates an environment conducive to the growth of various bacteria strains. These microorganisms tend to flourish due to the presence of soap scum residues and dirt. They primarily feed on wood-based materials such as floors, subfloors, drywall, particle board, and more, which can eventually lead to the development of mold growth.
Stagnant water can result in various forms of water damage, including mold growth, electronics corrosion, and the potential weakening of your home's structural integrity. At Restoration 1 of Northwest Arkansas, we possess the equipment, experience, and expertise required to effectively clean and restore your property from water overflow damage.
If your toilet overflows, hopefully you have a water shut off valve located near by, otherwise you may find yourself running to the water main to shut off the water. Our team can effectively remove any waste or debris from a toilet overflow, while also eliminating any lingering bacteria.
Category 2: “Gray Water”
Category 2 water, also known as Gray Water, contains a noticeable level of contamination that can result in discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources of Category 2 water may include washing machine overflows, toilet overflows, bathtub or sink overflows, and dishwasher overflows. Typically, Gray Water harbors viruses and/or bacteria and has the potential to swiftly degrade into Category 3, or "black water," if not adequately addressed.
Our certified technicians, equipped with personal protective gear to adhere to OSHA, EPA, and IICRC guidelines, treat Category 2 water cleanup with the same rigor as Category 3, ensuring thorough decontamination to eliminate any potential pathogens.
Category 3: “Black Water”
Category 3 water, commonly referred to as Black Water, is the most perilous due to its substantial biological contamination, including elements such as fecal matter, grease, or hazardous chemicals. Consumption of Category 3 water can lead to severe illness or even death. It is crucial to avoid any contact with Black Water unless managed by trained technicians equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
All situations involving Gray Water and Black Water, such as sewage backups, unattended leaks, backups, or overflows, demand immediate attention as emergencies to minimize potential health hazards and additional damage.
